Hi, everyone! We all know I'm a sucker for bold, vibrant colour. That said, it's so easy to fall into a neutral makeup rut (especially when going to work) and to lack the inspiration or motivation to get out of it. A couple weeks ago, however, I was lucky enough to find just the inspiration I needed: the Kat von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Eye Shadow Palette. I won this absolute stunner of a palette in a giveaway hosted by Chelle at Makeup Your Mind, and I promised (a whiz at vibrant colours herself) to do her proud with my winnings.
From what I found in writing this post, it seems the Mi Vida Loca Remix palette was a limited edition 2015 holiday palette (please correct me if I'm wrong!), which means it's rather hard to track down at the moment. I know reading a review of a discontinued product can feel like a useless endeavour, but I'm rolling with it for a couple reasons: a) it's a beautiful product and I want to give it a shout-out! and b) I want to provide inspiration so that, the next time you spot a palette full of bright colours, you may actually consider giving it a go rather than passing it up. Rainbow-coloured eye shadows: Yes, you can!
The Mi Vida Loca Remix palette comes in a glossy cardboard box, from which the palette itself (also with a cardboard base) slides out from the side. The artwork on the front is colourful and feminine, yet tough, just like that Kat von D brand itself.
The palette contains a whopping 24 shades, arranged in a unique, beautiful circular pattern. Along the outer ring are the vibrant, rainbow-hued shadows and on the inner circle are a variety of neutrals.
The shades in the palette really represent the full colour spectrum, featuring a selection of pretty pinks, burgundies, and violets...
... blues and teals...
... greens and golds...
... and yellows, oranges, and bronzes...
And what makes this palette truly cohesive and wearable are the neutrals in the centre. There is a handy selection of highlight shades, neutral crease/transition shades, and deeper hues from definition and lining.
The first time I played with the palette I did not hold back: it was full-on rainbow eyes or bust! Here's the result of my inaugural experience with the Mi Vida Loca Remix palette:
To create the eye look, I started by applying Fran, a vibrant near-primary yellow, on the inner third of my lid. I then blended Analogue, a tangerine orange, into the centre of my lid, and Swoon, a vivid hot pink, into the outer third of my lid, thus creating a yellow, to orange, to pink gradient. For some definition on the lids, I reached for a couple of the palette's purples shades. I first applied Rewind, a deep cranberry, to the outer corners of the lid to deepen the colour, and swept Anthem, a bold grape, to the outer portion of my crease, blending outward. To ground the look and transition from the bold lid colours to the brow bone, I applied a mix of Vox, a deep chocolate brown, and Noble, a paler nude, just above my crease. For the lower lash lines, I opted for some of the beautiful blue and green shades. I first swept Dark Wave, a near navy blue, to the outer third of my lower lash line, then added Synth, an ocean blue, to the centre, and Vinyl, a lime green, to the inner third of my lower lashes. Finally, I added touches of highlight to the inner corners of the eye and my brow bone courtesy of Lyric, a shimmery ivory. And voila!
I paired the rainbow eyes with my favourite tangerine blush, MAC Modern Mandarin, and a pretty pale coral gloss, NYX Butter Gloss in Maple Blondie.
Here are a few more shots of the look:
Overall, I am so in love with this palette and am super pleased with how it helped me to create a rainbow eye so easily! (The only place I went to that day was the grocery store, but I werked it in the produce aisle ;) The shades in Mi Vida Loca Remix are bold, yet blendable, and really allow you to transition colours perfectly, as there are so many to choose from! I've already used this palette a few more times (including in one of my Valentine's Day makeup looks, here) and have not been disappointed. It is now my go-to for when I need to bust out of a neutral rut and have some fun! I completely encourage you to do the same- there's nothing like some neon eyes to lift your spirits and put a skip in your step!
Did you snag the Kat von D Mi Vida Loca Remix palette? What are your favourite vibrant eye shadow palettes? Have you played around with a rainbow eye look?
Have a wonderful week! xo
What a fantastic prize to win! I spotted this palette before Christmas but resisted buying it because I know that I just wouldn't be brave enough to wear most of the bright colours! You pull them off so well though! Gorgeous! xx
