Hi, everyone! Just over a year ago, I discovered the beauty that is the Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows. These eye shadows come with a whopping selection of nearly 200 shades and are offered in a variety of finishes, from matte, to shimmer, to metallic. In my experience (you can check out a review of my first batch of Artist Shadows, here), these shadows are nothing short of fabulous. Pigmentation, blendability, incredibly long wear- they offer it all! During a recent post-work, therapeutic trip to Sephora, I realized that it was rather silly that I hadn't purchased any of these little lovelies in over a year. I had to remedy that! Though the shade selection can be both awe-inspiring and a little intimidating, I knew that I wanted to gravitate towards some warm, rich, bold orange-red tones. My friend and fellow vibrant-shadow lover (and blogger!) Chelle recently shared a stunning red and orange makeup look and I was inspired to beef up that colour family of my eye shadow collection.
The Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows retail for $24 CAD each, but are a wonderful value when you buy 2 or 3 at a time. For instance, 3 shadows (plus an included magnetic palette) are $50 CAD which, while not ultra cheap, is still a bargain in my books! Each shadow is sold separately from the palette in its own packaging, and then you get to assemble things as you please.
Each Artist Shadow is housed in a plastic disc that is removed ultra easily without any fuss. You then simply place the shadows in the magnetic pans of the palette and voila! Easy as pie.
Here are my 3 new shadows nestled into the palette, fresh and ready to go!
As I mentioned, I was aiming to select shades that were rich, warm, and bold. I gravitated towards the matte offerings this time around (which are sorely lacking in my collection), but wanted to add some shine to the trio to balance things out. After a serious swatch fest, the shades I selected were:
M738 (Auburn)- a matte, ultra warm mid-tone reddish brown
ME740 (Magma)- a metallic reddened coral with subtle golden shine
M846 (Morello Cherry)- a deep, matte burgundy red
(L-R): Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows in M738 Auburn, ME740 Magma, M846 Morello Cherry |
Above are swatches of each: (top to bottom) M738 Auburn, ME740 Magma, and M846 Morello Cherry.
And here is a close-up of an eye look I created with all three shadows! I applied Magma all over my lid, as well as long the lower lash line, Morello Cherry on the outer corner of the eye, blended up in to the crease, and Auburn in the crease, blending upward, as well as along the lower lash line as a liner.
So did these new Artist Shadows live up to my high regards? Absolutely! If anything, they further surpassed my expectations. Auburn and Morello Cherry were my first mattes from the range, and boy are they smooth, blendable, and pigmented. Morello Cherry might be the prettiest red shadow I've seen and Auburn will be such a versatile warm brown. And as for metallic shadows, Magma is tops. It is one of the most rich, beautiful shadows I've used- bold, fiery, and totally wearable! And I love the name too.
Look out for a full Look of the Day using these new additions coming later this week!
