My Eyes Have the Blues: Chanel Les Quatres Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination

Happy weekend, everyone! Today's post features one of the lovely goodies I picked up at my recent Chanel makeover, which I talked about in my last post, here

One spring trend that has been raved about left and right is blue eye makeup. From robin egg to navy, this is a trend that has simultaneously piqued my interest and skepticism. Back in high school I was quick to adopt a blue eye makeup look (see here and here if you want photographic evidence), which is why the look evokes both nostalgia and a bit of, well, cringing. Eek. But when I saw that Chanel was touting the blue eye makeup trend this season, my skepticism melted into temptation. If you're going to jump on a bandwagon, might as well be one as chic as Chanel's! ;)

So my foray back into blue eye makeup has been ushered in with the incredibly fun, sleek, and elegant Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination. As with all Chanel products, it came packaged in a chic black and gold box:

The palette itself is sleek and slightly reflective, with a label on the back and the iconic interlocking "C"s on the front:

And a peek inside! The compact features a decently-sized mirror, two sponge applicators, and a logo-embossed cover to keep the eye shadows fresh:

Here's a shot of the eye shadows themselves. As you can see, Fascination features dome-shaped eye shadows in four distinct shades: a cool-toned pale grey, a cheery sky blue with gold shimmer and lavender undertones, a mid-tone charcoal, and a nearly-black deep navy:

And swatches! Starting with the shade in the top right of the palette and working counter-clockwise:

As you can see, the silver shade is quite pale and semi-sheer, the blue and charcoal shades are slightly more pigmented, and the navy-black is fully opaque. Each have different levels of sheen to them, with the deepest shade being closest to matte and the bright blue shade the most shimmery of the lot. These swatches were all applied with a dry sponge applicator, but apparently you can wet the brush/sponge to make the colours more intense. I've yet to try this, but looking forward to giving it a go!

The palette even comes with a little booklet that describes the function of the palette, as well as 5 different ways you can utilize the shades to create varying looks. It's not a necessary addition to the palette, but it would definitely be a handy resource for someone new to makeup and seeking some tips. And of course the descriptions are incredibly appealing- who wouldn't want to play with a palette that offers "a perfect harmony of luminous, contrasting shades for a makeup look that can go from ultra-natural to extremely sophisticated "?

Overall, I'm pretty happy that I've warmed to the blue eye shadow craze and am looking forward to incorporating this palette into my makeup routine. Look out for a Look of the Day featuring the Fascination quad soon!

Is this a palette you would buy? Any other spring trend that are capturing your interest at the moment?

Cheers! xo

  2. This looks like a lovely palette, I don't really find that blues really suit my colouring, I'm better suited to brown eyeshadows so I'd love to try it in a different colour :)

    1. Yeah, blues can definitely be hard to wear, but these ones are surprisingly do-able! But Chanel do some great neutral quads as well. Worth checking out for sure! xo

  6. These colours are beautiful! I love the colour blue but since I have green eyes blue eyeshadow doesn't usually look good on me. I'd like to make it work though because blue eyeshadow can look so pretty in a smokey eye look.

  11. I love these palettes, I am always quite wary of blues tho as if they run/smudge they can give a black eye effect.

  21. I love the look of all these shades! I wouldn't normally choose blue eyeshadow as I imagine bright blue tacky eyes but the ones in this palette look really wearable and the darker shades would be great for a twist on the smoky eye look! X

  24. Great tip about wetting the sponge to make the shadows appear darker. I have a Chanel in "Spices" and the colors aren't showing up as dark as I would like, so I will try your suggestion!
