Hi, everyone! Sometimes I just want to channel my inner Mimi and pair red lipstick with blue eyeshadow. Yes, it's a tricky combination to pull off (unless clown face is your goal), but with a light hand and a few neutral touches, I think it can look quite lovely! As with my last few posts, I've used my brand new ColourPop goodies to make this look happen.
For the eyes, I started by applying ColourPop's Super Shock Highlighter in Highly Waisted all over the lid, blending up to the brow, for some glow. I then painted Super Shock Shadow in Coconut (the most beautiful teal blue) on the outer half of the lids, blending up and out. To ground the look (thus, hopefully, preventing the dreaded clown face), I applied Inglot Eye Shadow #357 (a matte mid-tone brown) to the crease. For some glimmer, I pushed some of ColourPop Fringe along the lower lash line, and to finish, I reached for a bronze eyeliner (Urban Decay 24/7 in Bourbon) and two coats of black mascara.
On the cheeks, I paired ColourPop Super Shock Blush in JellyFish (one of my new favourites) with Super Shock Highlighter in Highly Waisted for a luminous flush. I also warmed up the skin a bit with Essence Beach Cruisers Bronzing Powder in Life's A Beach, to make the look feel extra summery.
Last, but definitely not least, I created a vivid pinky red lip with the help of ColourPop Lippie Stix in Frenchie (an ultra-saturated neon rose) and OCC's Colour Cosmetic Pencil in Anime. The result was a slightly ombre lip that also channeled the summery vibe perfectly.
The Breakdown:
Foundation: YSL Fusion Ink Foundation in BR20 Pinky Beige
Concealer: Cle de Peau Concealer in Ivory
Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte Long-Wearing Pressed Powder in 011 Creamy Natural (on t-zone) and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (lightly all over)
Bronzer: Essence Beach Cruisers Bronzing Powder in Life's a Beach
Blush: ColourPop Super Shock Blush in JellyFish
Highlighter: ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter in Highly Waisted
Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Taupe and Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel
Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion Original formula
Eye Shadows: ColourPop Super Shock Shadows in Coconut (on outer half of the lid, blended up to the crease) and Fringe (along lower lash line), Super Shock Highlighter in Highly Waisted (on inner half of lid), Inglot Eye Shadow in #357 (to add some neutral definition to the crease), and The Body Shop Colour Crush Shadow in Oh, Honey (on brow bone and inner corners)
Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Bourbon
Mascara: The HotShop Long Lash Mascara (from the Born Pretty Store)
Lipstick: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Frenchie
Lipliner: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Colour Cosmetic Pencil in Anime
And a few more shots of the look:
While I'm sure the majority of you will not rush out to try this blue/red combo, hopefully I've shown that with a few gentle touches, unlikely colour pairings can work quite nicely! If you're going to reach for blue eye shadow, ColourPop Coconut is a fabulous option because it can be worn full-on or quite sheer and Lippie Stix in Frenchie really is a vibrant lip lover's dream. Hence, I'm smitten :)
What are your favourite unexpected colour combinations? What are your most-loved goodies from ColourPop?
Have a wonderful week! xo
This is so fabulously pretty. My eyes simply cannot focus on your lids - it's like they can't even tell what colours are there! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much! I had to blend in a few colours to keep the blue looking wearable :)

DeleteThis is going to sound so strange, but as I was scrolling through my bloglovin feed, just as your picture appeared I though "wait, did someone take a picture of me?" Then I focused, and saw that it was your lovely face.

Thanks, Melanie! Coconut is a gorgeous blue :)
DeleteHahaha you took Mimi makeup and made it look SO MUCH BETTER lol I find the names of Colourpop eyeshadows and blushes are kind of weird. I would think Coconut would be white! I have a pink blush called Olive lol So strange!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks, Megan! Yeah, the shade names are definitely not intuitive! ;)

DeleteCoconut is an incredible shadow! One of my faves. Jellyfish is such an unusual shade of blush. I had to get it after seeing swatches on Temptalia. I love this summery look! (I'm so not ready for fall.)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ingrid! Yeah, I bought Jellyfish because of Temptalia's raves and am so happy I did!
Deletesummer goddess much??? You look amazing! Blue eyeshadow is something I've been getting into, but it can look dated sometimes. You have the perfect balance of color to make blue eyeshadow and a bold lip look modern. In love!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks so much, Maeve! I was really trying to make it work because Coconut is such a pretty shade :)
DeleteLove your lip colour!
