Look of the Day: Frivolous Rendezvous

Hi, everyone! Hope all of your weekends have been spectacular. Today's dramatic LOTD title is derived from two stunning orange-coral makeup products that I've been loving now that the temperatures have finally risen from their frosty wintertime levels. The first is the ultra-lovely Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Frivole (for a full review, see here), which is seriously the prettiest orange blush I've ever seen. The coral undertones and super subtle shimmer make it incredibly wearable and perfect for summer. The second is one of my favourite frugal finds, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous. To read more about it, see here! I got this beauty for Christmas and have been wearing it religiously since, but with a particular gusto since the warmer weather arrived. It makes my lips scream "summer" without having to open my mouth! ;)

As you can see, Rendezvous is a warm orange-coral shade with quite high pigmentation and a semi-glossy finish. It is so easy to wear! Below is a picture that demonstrates the true beauty that is Frivole, and highlights how well it pairs with the lip stain. A match made in makeup heaven!

If you saw my last post, you'll know that I recently attended a Chanel makeover event, where I fell deeply in love with an aqua green mascara, Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Lime Light, from the brand's new L'Ete Papillon de Chanel Summer 2013 collection. Since I was so instantly smitten, I had to bring it home with me. This look was my first attempt at incorporating the green mascara into a wearable summer face. To complement the coral lips and cheeks and highlight Lime Light, I opted for a generous portion of warm, brown eye makeup. I applied some smokey brown shadow (MAC Bronze) underneath the eye, to contrast the paler shade of the mascara. I think it worked quite well!

Here's a view of the finished eye look, followed by a breakdown of everything I used:

The Breakdown:

Foundation: Revlon ColourStay Liquid Foundation (Combination/Oily formula) in Buff
Concealer: BeneFit Fake-Up in Light (under eyes) and Hard Candy Glamouflage in Light (on blemishes)
Powder: Hard Candy Welcome Matte Translucent Mattifying Powder
Bronzer: Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder #51
Blush: Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Frivole

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blonde/Taupe
Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original
Eye Shadow: MAC Ricepaper eye shadow (all over lid and as a highlight), MAC Bronze eye shadow (on crease, outer corner, and on lower lash line), Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Reflex (as eye shadow, in centre of lid)
Eyeliner: Tarte emphasEyes Clay Liner in Brown
Mascara: Boots Maximum Volume Mascara (Waterproof) in Black (on top) and Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Lime Light (on bottom)

Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous

And a few more shots of the look:

And that's it! Wearing a mix of coral and brown shades is my go-to when I want something warm, sultry, and wearable for summer, and this look embodies it well. I was so happy to incorporate the green mascara this time around to add a touch of something different!

What's your go-to look for summer? What are some your favourite coral-toned blushes and lip colours?

Thanks for reading! xo

  12. It makes my lips scream "summer" without having to open my mouth. - That's really clever.:D And I love the shade, it's perfect for the summer no doubt! Besides, green mascara - beyond cool!!

You know what I like for summer? That "wet look" on the eye lid. But apparently that's just for shoots, because it's gloss or vaseline and if you put that on eyes it's going to melt and sting like a mother.:)

    1. Aww, your kind comments always mean so much! Glad you like the look! I love the look of wet, glossy lids, but I've struggled to find a technique that lets the look last and feel comfortable on the eyes. Perhaps a new summer project?! :)

  19. Yup, definitely wearing it again! Isn't coral lipstick great for looking put together without being too made-up? You should definitely try out an orange blush. Think it would look great with your colouring. Always happy to hear I've inspired you to try something new :)
