Hi, everyone! Even though March is upon us (so hard to know what month we're in with this zig zagging weather we're having), cold and flu season is definitely still alive and well. My husband and I have been trading colds for the past few months and I must say I'm ready for Spring! In the meantime, though, I am thrilled to test out new products that may give me a boost or provide some relief when I'm under the weather. Given that many cold medicines make me feel wacky (not in a good way) and I'm a sucker for organic products, I am always open to the idea of natural remedies. Given this, I was beyond eager to test out this Cold and Flu Emergency Kit** from Thursday Plantation!
Thursday Plantation is a health and beauty brand that specializes in essential oils that are 100% pure and 100% natural. Their tagline is "Treat Yourself Naturally", so it's no surprise that their products have a focus on healing and are totally free from harmful ingredients like sulfates, synthetic parabens, and harsh detergents. The line is also cruelty-free, which always makes me happy!
First off, I was delighted to see that the kit came in an adorable doctor's-style case with the sick emoji on the front (if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I tack emojis onto everything). Not only was the case adorable and practical, it was also lined with fresh herbs, which smelled beautiful!
The kit contains three 100% pure essential oils that can be used on their own or combined to provide a variety of healing and soothing relief, especially when you're under the weather.
The three oils included in the kit are the Eucalyptus Oil** ($9.99 CAD for 50mL), Tea Tree Oil** ($13.99 CAD for 25mL), and Lavender Oil** ($19.99 CAD for 25mL). Each of these oils are wonderfully multipurpose and smell incredible!
The Eucalyptus Oil is aimed at killing germs, clearing nasal passageways, healing muscle aches, cleaning household surfaces, and removing stains.
The Tea Tree Oil is aimed at relieving cuts and bites, healing acne, and killing germs.
The Lavender Oil is aimed at calming and improving sleep and anxiety, providing temporary relief from headaches and coughs, soothing upset stomachs, and easing joint pain.
Here are some of the quick and easy methods that Thursday Plantation recommend for each essential oil:
Eucalyptus Oil
Cold and Flu- Add 5mL of oil to 500mL or hot water and inhale. Alternatively, sprinkle drops of oil in the bath or on your pillow
Respiratory Issues- Add a few drops of oil to coconut oil for a DIY vapour rub
Nasal Congestion- Add 5 drops of oil to a face towel and inhale throughout the day
Boost Immunity- Use in a diffuser, as inhaling the oil vapour will stimulate the immune system
Killing Germs- Add 10-30 drops of oil to distilled water for a DIY disinfectant spray
Tea Tree Oil
Sore Throat- Add 1 drop of oil to a glass of warm water and gargle (but don't swallow!)
Sinus Infection- Add a few drops of oil to a bowl of boiling water with a towel. Place hot, saturated towel over the face and inhale
Sinus Infection- Add a few drops of oil to a bowl of boiling water with a towel. Place hot, saturated towel over the face and inhale
Aches and Pains- Add 10 drops of oil and epsom salts to the bath to soothe body aches
Cold Sores- Apply oil to a cold sore 3-4 times daily to reduce inflammation
Dry Nose and Throat- Add 10 drops of oil to a bowl of hot water and leave in the bedroom overnight
Lavender Oil
For the bath- Add a few drops to bathwater to calm the mind and soften the skin
Night Cream- Add a few drops of oil to your nighttime moisturizer and mix well
Chapped Lips- Rub oil directly onto sore, dry lips for hydration
Nausea- Place a drop of oil behind the ears or on around the navel to soothe the stomach
Stress and Anxiety- Massage oil onto the temples to calm the mind and ease tension
My personal favourite strategy so far is to mix a few drops of the Eucalyptus Oil in with coconut oil to create your own, all natural decongesting chest rub. I simply mixed the oils up in a small bowl and massaged the concoction onto my chest, neck, and ears. I experienced a slight, enjoyable tingle and a definite relief from my stuffy nose! I also rubbed some on my hubby's chest when he was sick- he's a sucker for coconut oil in general, as well as of a good massage, so this DIY trick gets his stamp of approval as well!
I'm definitely impressed with the quality and affordability of these essential oils and cannot wait to continue testing out the brand's tricks and tips for using them. I'm truly hoping I don't get sick again any time soon, but at least I know I have this handy arsenal at my side should a cold arise!
If you're interested in Thursday Plantation, you can find the brand in Canada at WalMart, Rexall, Whole Foods, The Big Carrot, Well.ca, and many other independent health food stores.
Thanks so much for stopping by! xo

I've been collecting essential oils like nobody's business - I've just been really in love with the adding lavender oil into my homemade concoction! I love the idea of having one of these go-to sets for when I get sick!
