Look of the Day: Bloodroses

Hi, everyone! As you know, I had quite the curated shopping list for my recent trip to New York City. One of the brands that I was determined to raid was Kevyn Aucoin. I have always been a fan of Kevyn Aucoin's artistry skills and the iconic makeup looks he created that defined the '90s. His book Making Faces is an amazing inspiration! I've also been incredibly impressed with the products from the brand I've tried so far, so when I heard about the new Bloodroses collection, my interest was piqued! The Bloodroses range is supposed to be inspired by Kevyn Aucoin's favourite hue of saturated rosy berry. While the lineup offers many deep, ultra vampy products (like an amazing matte lipstick), I opted for two of the more sheer, luminous Bloodroses options.

The two products I selected were Kevyn Aucoin The Lip Gloss in Bloodroses and The Creamy Glow Duo #1 in Nuelle and Bloodroses. The gloss is a wonderfully slick and plumping formula in a flattering semi-sheer brick berry hue. The duo includes two creamy, yet long-wearing hues of tan nude and rosy wine. They both blend like a dream!

For this look, I applied Nuelle, the nude shade from the duo, along the hollows of my cheekbones as a contour, then blended in Bloodroses into the apples of my cheeks. This technique was recommended by lovely salesperson at Barney's and I have to say it worked quite nicely!

For the eyes, I wanted to keep things ultra nude so that the Bloodroses hues could subtly take centre stage. I blended a few neutral shades from the Wet n' Wild Comfort Zone and Too Faced Neutral Eyes palettes to create a softly dimensional look. To finish the eyes, I opted for ultra lush lashes thanks to the HotShop Long Lash Mascara from the Born Pretty Store. This stuff is seriously amazing!

Finally, I painted my pout with The Lip Gloss in Bloodroses, which gives such a natural flush and lushness to the lips.

The Breakdown:

Foundation: Revlon ColourStay Whipped Creme Makeup in Buff
Concealer: Inglot Under Eye Concealer #95 (on dark circles) and Cle de Peau Concealer in Ivory (on redness and blemishes)

Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte Long-Wearing Pressed Powder in 011 Creamy Natural  (on t-zone) and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (lightly all over)

Blush: Kevyn Aucoin The Cream Glow Duo #1 in Nuelle & Bloodroses (Nuelle as a contour and Bloodroses on apples of cheeks)

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Taupe and Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel

Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion Original formula
Eye Shadows:  Rosy Champagne shade from the Wet N' Wild Comfort Zone palette (all over lid), Brownie (matte taupe shade from Too Faced's Natural Eyes Palette) in the crease, Ivory shade from Comfort Zone (on brow bone and inner corners)

Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Lucky (lightly along lower lash line)
Mascara: The HotShop Long Lash Mascara from the Born Pretty Store

Lipstick: Kevyn Aucoin The Lip Gloss in Bloodroses

And a couple more shots of the look:

While the vampier goodies from the Bloodroses range might have packed more of an impact, I actually love how the cream blush and lip gloss give the most flattering, glowy hint of rosy wine to the lips and cheeks. The sheer finishes are perfect for summertime and keep things looking ultra fresh while still channeling Kevyn Aucoin's classic aesthetic. I'm sure I'll be reaching for them often!

Have you tried anything from Kevyn Aucoin? What are your favourite sheer rosy/berry products?

Have a fantastic week!

  13. I love berry tones, they are so flattering on you! As always you look gorgeous and dewy :) I love the shimmery eyeshadow as well, it really accents the highlighter nicely. Did you even use a highlighter or is that blush just super glowy? Love!
