Look of the Day: Date Night!

Happy weekend, everyone! This past Wednesday, my boyfriend and I celebrated our 5-year anniversary. I know, right? Five whole years! I guess time flies when you find a guy as smart, quirky, challenging, and silly as mine. Each year, we spend the evening of our anniversary re-creating our first date (minus the awkwardness, well, at least most of it). Date #1 consisted of coffee at the Moonbean Cafe followed by a gooey, delicious dinner at the Grilled Cheese, both in Toronto's Kensington Market. Though both settings are thoroughly casual, I still decided to up the glam factor a bit to celebrate the occasion.

The look was all about a soft, shimmery smokey eye and fresh, luminous lips and cheeks. For the eyes, I layered two lovely creamy products from Bobbi Brown with my much-adored powder shades from Make Up For Ever. I started by smudging Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Scotch, a deep brown with warm coppery shimmer (truly stunning, full review soon!) along my upper lash line, blending upward. I then applied Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Velvet Plum (a plum-tinged brown with gold shimmer) to the crease, blending it into Black Scotch. To add more dimension, I applied Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows in Black Gold (along the lash line and outer corner), Silver Brown (in the crease), and Golden Beige (as a highlight on brow bones and inner corners). I finished the eyes with a couple coats of BeneFit They're Real  for extra lush lashes.

For the cheeks, I chose products for subtle sculpting and a flattering glow. I started by sweeping my favourite contour powder, Inglot HD Sculpting Powder #504 (which creates the most subtle, natural shadow), along the hollows of my cheeks. I added some light to the tops of my cheekbones with the unapologetically luxe Cle de Peau Luminizing Skin Enhancer #12. To add some gentle colour to the cheeks, I swept Hourglass Incandescent Electra (from the Ambient Lighting Blush Palette) on the apples, blending up towards the temples.

On the lips, I grabbed a perky shade from MAC that I recently scored in a makeup swap. Sunny Seoul is a stunning peach-toned pink with a luscious glow. I think it complemented the look perfectly!

The Breakdown:

Lips:
MAC Cremesheen + Pearl Lipstick in Sunny Seoul

And a few more shots of the look:

So there you have it- my pick for a wintry, casual-glam (is that a thing?), date night makeup look! The end of the evening didn't quite go as planned, as our hopes of seeing Birdman were dashed my hoards of eager post-Golden Globes moviegoers (a.k.a., a 30-minute line when our show started in 10), but did end with a sweet little beauty-related gift, which I'll be talking about in my next post!

What's your go-to date night look? Now that the Oscar nominations have been revealed, what movies are you dying to see?

Thanks for stopping by! xo

  5. Gorgeous! MAC's Sunny Seoul looks great on you.
It's so sweet that the two of you celebrate your anniversaries by re-creating the first date. It's too bad you weren't able to see Birdman. It's one of the ones I need to see too. I'm also going to re-watch The Grand Budapest Hotel since it's on Netflix now. :P

  17. Aww congrats! 5 years is quite a milestone! I really adore the look, especially the eyes! Black Scotch is amazing, and I really need to look into the new MUFE eyeshadows. So, date night. I know that Dr. D is fond of pink lipsticks and nothing "too dark" or "too red (although sometimes the way he describes my lipsticks makes me wonder if he is at least partially colorblind LOL)," so I try to wear pinks. Fortunately, he is OK with fuchsia pinks and bright pinks, not just baby pinks or something, because in that case I might dieeee!

    1. Thanks so much, Sunny! Your review of Black Scotch was definitely one of the reasons I checked it out :) My bf is the same- he'd rather see a smokey eye than a deep, glossy lip!
