Taken together, my curiosity was definitely piqued when I learned that Drew had released a line of cosmetics called Flower Beauty last year. The brand is budget-friendly, cruelty-free, and has a fun, yet still decidedly grown-up vibe. Flower Beauty recently launched in Canadian Wal-Mart stores and I was quick to snag a couple of goodies!
The range is extensive and comprehensive, which is not always the case for drugstore brands. This made it difficult to narrow down my options, but I did have fun browsing all of the products! After a painstaking decision-making process (yes, I was that girl biting her nails in Wal-Mart), I opted for two products that promised elegant textures and buildable pigmentation.
My first choice was the Colour Play Creme Eye Shadow in Flirty Floret. These cream shadows tout antioxidant protection via Vitamin E, a water-based formula for weightlessness and long-wear, a buildable, blendable, and crease-free texture, and skin-smoothing spheres.
They come in sturdy clear jars that reveal the shade inside and are topped with white caps and pretty rose-gold Flower logo. You can also see the product itself through the bottom of the jar, which is super handy for storage!
There is a white plastic circular topper that covers the product itself to keep it fresh. It does make things a tad messy (much products sticks to the stopper when you pull it up), but I appreciate the effort to prevent the cream from drying out. The texture is creamy and dreamy, like a thick mousse. Although it is rich, the feel is truly lightweight.
Flirty Floret is a gorgeous warm bronzy copper shade. I need another bronze shadow like a hole in the head, but this one looked truly stunning. In terms of pigmentation, a little goes a very long way! It can be applied semi-sheerly for a wash of metallic colour, or layered for a truly smokey, sultry look.
My second pick is one adorable-looking multitasker, Kiss Me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby in Rosie Posie. These pudgy sticks of colour promise full coverage for lips and more sheer, buildable coverage for cheeks. They feature a "soft focus complex" to promote a smoothing effect, skin-plumping ingredients like ceramidone and silicone powders, and are free of parabens and talc.
The texture of these feels creamy and not at all tacky or sticky. It melts into skin like a dream, then dries to a semi-matte finish that truly works on my oily skin. It felt mildly drying on my lips, but was perfection as a blush! The lasting power was also phenomenal. In my opinion, these totally blow the Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balms out of the water!
Rosie Posie is an ultra-flattering mauve-toned pink that mimics my natural flush quite well. It's sheer at first swipe, but can be seriously built up for some extra drama. I think it would truly be suitable for all skin tones!
Here are swatches of both of the products on my inner arm (MAC NC15 skin tone), first applied heavily, then blended out. As you can see, both are quite buildable!
(L-R): Flower Beauty Kiss Me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby in Rosie Posie (heavily, then blended) and Colour Play Creme Eye Shadow in Flirty Floret (heavily, then blended) |
If you can't tell already, I am so, so happy with both of these products! I can definitely say they're among the best drugstore products I've tried in some time. They are beautifully pigmented and perfectly buildable, the textures are so easy to work with, and the wear time is fantastic. Plus, they're cruelty-free and offer cute, functional packaging. Really no complaints!
I'm quite eager to try more from the brand. Do you have any recommendations on what my next Flower Beauty purchase should be? Look out for a Look of the Day featuring these products coming up next! :)
Have a fantastic weekend! xo
Oh wow, the chubby blush sounds so good! Better than Clinique?! Also I've heard raves about the cream shadows. The formula looks so unique, and that shade is a stunner. I so wish we could get Flower over here!
