Look of the Day: Blue Lagoon

Hey, everyone! Today's Look of the Day is another expression of my recent obsession with blue eye makeup and drew heavily on lovely goodies from the Chanel Summer 2012 collection and this year's Chanel Summer 2013 L'Ete Papillon Collection. I've been loving that Chanel has been playing with bold, rich colours in their recent seasonal offerings. While you can't go wrong with a polished, neutral makeup look, I feel that you can sport cheery, vibrant hues and still look totally chic. I think my recent Chanel Makeover proved that point pretty nicely!

That said, I did go a bit beyond polished for this look, opting for something a bit bolder and more unusual. I could tell I'd accomplished the unusual part when the bf greeted me that day by saying "Wow, your makeup... um..." Heehee, so yeah, a touch beyond my normal makeup look, but still wearable, I'd argue!

The look started with the incredible Chanel Fascination Eye Shadow Quad, a palette of shimmery blues and greys.

I added to the look by lining my eyes with a rich, navy liner, Chanel Style Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Bleu Exquis. The liner would have looked great on its own, but something inspired me to get a bit more artsy. Excitedly, I pulled out the amazing Illamasqua Precision Ink in Scribe, a stark white liquid liner. I used it to create a Speckled Eyeliner look a while back and thought I'd create a slightly more subtle version of that, adding irregularly sized and dispersed dots along the liner on the outer two-thirds of the eye. That definitely added some instant drama to the look! I finished things off with a generous coating of Chanel Imitable Waterproof Mascara in Limelight on my lower lashes to add a touch of aqua to the mix.

Here's a close-up of the finished eye look:

And here's a shot of all the lovely Chanel goodies that I used to create this look. I usually don't photograph the products used in my Looks of the Day, but when it's Chanel, how can you not?! :)

To balance the dramatic eyes, I kept the cheeks and lips softer. I opted for Chanel's Joues Contraste Blush in Frivole (a warm orange-coral) applied lightly and my new favourite nude gloss, Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Zephyr.

Here's another shot of the entire look, followed by a breakdown of everything I used:

The Breakdown:

Foundation Primer: Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation Primer
Foundation: Revlon ColourStay Liquid Foundation (Combo/Oily formula) in Sand Beige
Concealers: BeneFit Fake-Up in Light (under eyes) and MAC Select Cover-Up in NC20 (on blemishes)
Powder: MAC Blot Powder in Medium
Bronzer: Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powder in Sable Rose
Blush: Chanel Joues Contraste in Frivole

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blonde/Taupe and Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel
Eye Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original
Eye Shadow: Chanel Les Quatres Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination (shimmery aqua shade all over lid and up into crease, dark grey shade blended in outer corner, crease, and outer lower lash line, light grey shade on centre of lid), MAC Eye Shadow in Mulch (lightly in crease), NYX For Your Eyes Only Mysterious Brown Eyes Palette (pinky ivory shade as highlight in inner corner and brow bone)

Eyeliner: Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Bleu Exquis, Illamasqua Precision Ink in Scribe (dotted along the navy liner), and NYX Wonder Pencil in Light (on lower waterline)
Mascara: Clinique High Impact Mascara in Black (on top lashes) and Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Lime Light (on bottom lashes)

Lip Gloss: Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Zephyr

And a few more shots of the look:

And that's it! Overall, I had a lot of fun with this look. It was my attempt to play with colour and do something beyond the norm without going over-the-top. And even though my boyfriend had reservations about it, I felt pretty good rocking this look! ;)

What are your thoughts on the look? Have you ever tried a speckled/dotted eyeliner look? Anyone else loving blue eye makeup for summer?

Thanks for reading, as always! xo
