Hi, everyone! Time for another 'Nail of the Day'. Today's installment features one of my new favourite shades for winter, Essie Mint Candy Apple. Although I first witnessed bloggers touting this shade over the summer (it really is quite bright and cheery!), I picked this up in December and actually find it to be a great complement to the cold weather. To me, the cool minty-blue hue conjures up images of frost, ice, and other highlights of a chilly winter landscape. Though I love deeper, vampy shades during fall and winter, steering away from the usual can often pay off and Mint Candy Apple is an example of just that!
As you can see, Mint Candy Apple is a cool-toned, nearly pastel greenish blue with an opaque, slightly shiny finish. I like to apply 2-3 coats for full opacity and colour payoff, but you could definitely get away with one solid coat if you're in a rush or prefer a sheerer look. Here are a few more photos!
And I apologize for the somewhat sloppy manicure. I wore this over the holidays and I think the laziness inherent in Christmas relaxation dulled my ability to apply the polish neatly. Oh well! Hope this still gives you a good idea of the shade and finish :)
Have any of you tried Essie Mint Candy Apple? Thoughts? Any other pastel-like shades that you enjoy wearing during the colder months?
Pretty colour for spring :)

Thanks, Rebeka! I've been loving it for winter, but I agree- it will be so perfect for spring :)
DeleteI love this shade but I can't justify spending loads of money on nail polishes because I always have to redo my nails like 2-3 times. I always smudge them. So it would be a little bit of a waste.

Yeah, I hesitate with spending a lot on nail polish too (I'm pretty lazy when it comes to paining my nails, so polishes in my collection go under-used), but some shades, like this one, just speak to me :) Thanks for stopping by, Wanischa! xoxo
DeleteI tend to go for darker colours too in winter, but like you have gone for something different at the moment and it's quite a refreshing change. This is a lovely colour :)

Yeah, I stepped outside the box a bit, and it has been refreshing! Glad you like the shade- and thans for stopping by :)
DeleteLiterally just took this shade off my nails today..and not because I wanted to, but noticed a chip on the train...and then that is it...I will pick it all off till its gone (bad bad bad). LOVE this colour...and recently repurchased it from the diffusion line at Boots and couldn't believe how much easier it applied!

Amazing! Glad I could introduce you to something you've been looking for :)
DeleteI definitely love that this is more of a minty blue, I haven't tried it! But I think its really refreshing. Though I can't help but continue loving the sea foam-y mint color that has been everywhere since spring of last year!

Thanks, Kelly! Yeah, I've definitely been loving the minty/pastel shades that have been everywhere lately. So pretty! :)
DeleteI was JUST about to buy this but went for OPI's Gargantuan Green Grape [slightly less blue]... I love pastels all year round and I'll still be eyeing mint candy apple :)

DeleteOh I love that colour! I've been obsessed with mint-blue hues lately especially for the summer. I personally prefer wearing darker shades during the winter but mainly whatever floats my boat!
