Hi, everyone! True story: when I was 10 years old, I owned almost 50 Treasure Trolls. Those so-ugly-they're-cute little dolls with the wild, crazy hair and bejewelled bellybuttons. I loved how quirky, colourful, and expressive they were and that you could find a troll in just about any outfit or uniform. My collection has since dispersed (i.e., my mom donated them to younger cousins and family friends; my heart still pangs), but I will always have a soft spot for those little faces. So when I heard that MAC was releasing a Good Luck Trolls collection for summer, I got a little giddy. I popped into my local MAC store last Thursday (the collection's release date) to have a play.
Nostalgia was not the collection's only appeal; it is also rife with adorable packaging and vivid colours, which always catch my attention!
The boxes in the collection do not possess MAC's classic black packaging, but instead are adorned with an array of multi-coloured troll hair. So playful, colourful, and cute!
The inner packaging is also special and limited edition, with neon orange Lipstick tubes, Lip Glasses with sparkly teal caps, and bright pink compacts, all with colourful troll silhouettes.
As I mentioned, the Good Luck Trolls collection features several shades of neon, candy, and rainbow. While vibrant colour is my thing, I am also trying to avoid buying shades that are simply not flattering on me or that I would never wear out of the house. So after some swatching and play time, I opted for three products that are fun and colourful, but totally wearable!
Beauty Powder in Glow Rida ($33.50)
I was first drawn to this product because of the adorable troll silhouette etched in the powder and the neon pink compact. But upon swatching the powder, I was sold! I had never before purchased a Beauty Powder, as they're quite subtle. They're like the shy sister of MAC's Mineralize Skinfinishes. But I find Glow Rida to have just the right balance of glow! It's a beautiful warm rose golden hue that imparts the most beautiful sheen to the skin. It is not frosty nor in your face, but is definitely noticeable and flattering on my NC20 complexion.
Satin Lipstick in Sushi Kiss ($22.50 CAD)
I had tried this lipstick a few years back, but wasn't sure if it worked. It's a near-pastel peachy coral with a satiny finish. It's quite retro and summery and the kind of shade that can be a bit tough to wear. But when I tried it on this time around, it stole my heart! Applied with a light hand, it really brightens up my face. Worn full-on, it's wonderfully mod and cheeky.
Lip Glass in Twerkquoise ($20.50 CAD)
A wearable blue lip colour? That's what you get with Twerkquoise Lip Glass. Despite the cheesy name, this is really a beauty. When applied in a light layer, this gives a beautiful cool purple shimmery tint to the lips and the shine adds lots of volume. If you layer it up the blue-ness definitely comes to light, so this can also double as a daring lip shade if that's your bag!
Here are swatches of Twerkquoise, Sushi Kiss, and Glow Rida:

And let's finish up with another touch of cuteness; my kitty Sadie asking me who the heck this creature is!!
Are you tempted by the MAC Good Luck Trolls Collection? Would you wear any of the shades I featured here? What's your favourite quirky makeup product? Did you collect Trolls as a kid?
The MAC Good Luck Trolls collection is now available in-store and online!
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
Thanks also to my fiance Adam for scoring this adorable little troll (with padded boobies, no less) during last week's thrifting expedition. She felt right at home with my new makeup goodies:)

Fair! If it doesn't have that nostalgic factor, I can see why you might be able to pass :)
DeleteWhen I was a kid, I had so many of these trolls but I don't know what happened to them, they're all gone! I don't think I'll check out this range, but I love the colourful packaging :)
