Look of the Day: Blue Steel

Happy Friday, everyone! Cheers to another weekend :) So in a couple previous posts, I discussed how I've been daring myself to embrace the blue eye shadow trend that is so ubiquitous this spring. My first foray back into the world of robin's egg and cobalt lids was at my recent Chanel makeover at the Bay here in Toronto. I was pleased with the results of the makeover, so I attempted to tackle the look myself. Here is the result:

To create this look, I relied on my of my favourite new makeup finds, the Chanel Les Quatres Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination. I picked up this lovely quad on the day of my makeover, and was keen to delve in and see what I could create with it.

The palette consists of a cool, pale grey, a shimmery aqua-sky blue, a charcoal grey, and a deep navy-black shade. I combined all four colours to create the look and was quite happy with how well they worked together!

To create the look, I applied the shimmery sky blue shade all over the lid. I applied it wet, which really brought out the aqua shimmer! I then applied the charcoal shade to the crease, blending it into the blue. I also applied the charcoal to the outer third of the lower lash line to add some extra smokiness. Then I took the pale grey and used it as a highlight on my brow bone, inner corners of the eye, and underneath the lower lash line. Finally, I used the darkest shade (applied wet) as an eyeliner. Using this shade wet really brought out the blue even further!

To contrast the vivid eyes, I kept the rest of the makeup soft. I opted for a neutral-pink blush (the ever-popular Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed) and shimmery, soft pink lips (Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Aventure). I think they complemented each other well!

Here's another view of the look, followed by a full breakdown of what I used:

Here's a list of all the products I used to create this look:

The Breakdown:

F
oundation: Wet N' Wild Cover All Cream Foundation in 815 Fair

Concealer: Hard Candy Glamouflauge in Light
Powder: Revlon ColourStay Pressed Powder in Light
Bronzer: Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Hula Hula
Blush: Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blonde
Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original
Eye Shadows: All four shades from the Chanel Les 4 Ombres Fascination Quad: sky blue shade applied wet all over lid, charcoal shade applied in the crease and lightly underneath the eyes (outer third), light grey shade as highlight on brow bone, inner corner, and underneath the eye, navy-black shade applied wet as an eyeliner on top and bottom lashlines.

Mascara: Fresh Supernova Mascara in Black

Lips: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Aventure

And a few more shots of the look:

And that's it! Overall, I couldn't be happier with this palette! The texture of the shadows is top-notch, and it was effortless to create a look that was vibrant, yet wearable. So happy that Fascination is now in my beauty arsenal!

So what do you think- can I pull off this blue eye shadow look? Is it something you'd like to wear? Any other favourite blue shades for eyes?

Thanks for reading! xo
