The Capsule Lipstick Wardrobe: NYC Edition

Hi, everyone! If you're reading this, it means that I'm already on my way to NYC. I'll be in the Big Apple with my parents until Thursday afternoon and could not be more thrilled about the trip. When it comes to vacation planning, I'm the ultimate geek. Annotated maps, shopping lists, checking the weather forecasts every few minutes. Yes, I'm a serious planner. The same goes for the packing process. While I used to bring a life's worth of items on a short trip, I've now gotten much better at only packing the essentials. I hate checking luggage, so that motivates me to keep things streamlined. That said, I still create packing lists an scrutinize each item closely.

In terms of lipsticks, I'm bringing 5. I realize that for most peoples' 3-day trips this would be excessive, but for this lip product obsessive, I'd say it's a rather tight edit. I've chosen 5 distinct shades that will complement any mood, outfit, or neighbourhood that the city has in store. So here it is, my NYC Capsule Lipstick Wardrobe!

The Go-with-Anything Neutral
First up, we have the lipstick that can go with just about everything. Milani Colour Statement Lipstick in Naturally Chic is a warm caramel-brick neutral that is flattering, neutral, and long-wearing. When in doubt, I always have this in my bag!

The Weird-but-Wearable
On the complete other end of the spectrum is Maybelline's Colour Sensational Lipstick in Lilac Flush, a pastel purple-pink with a lush sheen. It's a colour that is playful, unique, and statement-making, yet is surprisingly wearable and fresh.

The Hot Pink
No vacation wardrobe would be complete without a bright pink lippy. This time around, I'm bringing my brand new MAC Matte Lipstick in Pink Pigeon, which is ultra long-wearing without drying the lips out one bit. And it brings an instant brightness to the complexion!

The Cheery Coral
Given that it's summertime (and my frequently-checked weather forecasts say it's going to be quite warm in NYC this week), a summery coral shade is a must. I opted for Ilia Lipstick Crayon in Karma Chameleon, which leaves lips looking lush and ready to beat the heat.

The Low Maintenance Red
I love a red lip, but wearing one can be a daunting task. So for this trip, I selected my easiest red to wear, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Personne ne Rouge. It's a gorgeous slightly orange-toned red that sets to a dry finish and does not budge or smudge all day. Nor does it leave lips parched. It's a dream!

Here are swatches of my 5 selected lipsticks:

With these 5 shades in my arsenal, I feel completely prepared. The group covers all of the shade bases, while each offers a completely comfortable, no-fuss formula. I know I'll have an amazing time regardless, but even more so knowing that my pout will be happy and painted throughout :)

Which is your favourite lipstick here? How many lip products do you bring on vacation?

Have a fantastic week! xo

  2. Pink Pigeon looks so fun! Hmm I'd like to say I could bring less than you did here but then I started thinking about it and I don't think I'd be much better! At least you can get away with a carry on lol

    1. Haha, yeah, I'm still impressed that I can do carry-on only. Luckily lipsticks take up less space than shoes :)

  3. Naturally chic looks really different on you vs on me! It's pretty, but not as nude, on you.

  9. I feel you, my makeup packaging is always excessive. I always overpack for my cosmetic bag and yet, underpack for everything else. I guess we know where my priorities are at haha!
    Loving that Karma Chameleon shade!

  10. For a second I thought you were wearing a pop of purple liner on your water line in these swatches, but I think it might be the lipstick that's pulling out the blue in your skin. I feel like it might look SO good on you though -- try Urban Decay Fishnet on the lower lashline if you have it! Though I think you might have an even better dupe from Tom Ford...?
