The Matte Pink Lip (is a Bad Mood Cure-all)

Hi, everyone! Yesterday I woke up in a crappy mood. The skies were grey, I'd had a terrible sleep, and my hormones were raging. While I was tempted to huddle under the covers with a chocolate bar, instead I decided to opt for a more constructive pick-me-up: vibrant makeup! Luckily, I'd recently purchased two perfectly cheery pink lip products, so they were my happy pill of choice. 

I stopped into the Blur Makeup Room last week for the first time (after loving their booth at IMATS) and walked out with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Colour Cosmetic Pencil in Anime. I absolutely loved the texture of these lip liners (not too dry, not too creamy) and Anime is a totally stunning rich fuchsia pink. I knew I had several lipsticks that would pair well with it, so I brought it home! I had also been ultra curious about the new MAC Matte Lipstick collection and I finally got to swatching them earlier this week. I (of course) walked out with the most vivid shade among them, Pink Pigeon, a vibrant neon fuchsia. Anime and Pink Pigeon really do pair perfectly together!

Here are swatches of Pink Pigeon and Anime side-by-side. As you can see, the shades are quite similar and both have a matte, but not dry finish.

I am in love with both of these products for a few reasons: a) their vivid fuchsia hues are my biggest makeup weakness, b) they both offer long-wearing matte finishes that are neither drying nor uncomfortable on the lips, and c) they ignited a significant pep in my step on a day that started out gloomy and dull. Three cheers for makeup therapy!
