Look of the Day: Life's a Picnic

Hi, everyone! If you saw my last post, you'll know that I've fallen head over heels for the MAC Flamingo Park Spring makeup collection. It's blooming with vibrant pinks and reds and is completely up my alley! For today's makeup I paired my three new Flamingo Park goodies with some other MAC faves for an unabashedly cheery, flowery, feminine Spring look.

For the eyes, I started by applying a neutral shadow to the crease (MAC Wedge) for some dimension. I then blended MAC Sushi Flower, a bold matte pink, into Wedge for a subtle wash of pink. Next I swept MAC Paradisco, a light shimmery coral, on the lid for some glow, then I highlighted the brow bones and inner corners of the eyes with a mix of MAC Ricepaper and Retrospeck shadows for some pop. I finished off the eyes with a rich blackened plum liner, Chanel Rouge Noir Le Crayon Kohl and lots of black mascara!

The blush I used is one of the stars from Flamingo Park, in my opinion. Life's a Picnic is a bold, matte, unapologetically coral pink that, when blended, gives the best healthy flush. I applied Life's a Picnic to the apples of the cheeks, blending up to the temples. I see it as almost a geisha sort of shade, so applying it near the temples in a nod to a geisha's style of blush. I then contrasted the blush with some serious glow on the high points of my face, courtesy of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.

Finally, the lips were also a showcase of Flamingo Park's beauty. I first applied Have Your Cake lipstick, a saturated matte fuchsia violet, to my top lip and along the outer edges of my lower lip for dimension, then topped it with Nice to Meet You, a shinier coral pinky red. The shades blended wonderfully!

And a few more shots of the look:

Ah, although this Winter has been far from brutal, these cheery shades are making me long for Spring, pronto! They leave me feeling so fresh, pretty, and, well- vibrant! Vivid pinks can be intimidating to wear, so I hope this look inspires you to play with the colour family and have some fun :)

I think this would also make for an appropriate Valentine's Day makeup look, in case you also need some inspiration in that regard ;)

Also, I wanted to thank everyone for entering my Schaf Skin Care Giveaway- the winner was chosen this morning! Huge congrats to Meghan from Today's Beauty Obsession for being the lucky lady to win!

What's your favourite way to wear pink makeup? What tones do you gravitate to in Springtime?

Have a wonderful day! :)

  4. I love the way Life's a Picnic looks swept all the way up to the temples! This look is so perfect for spring and I'll definitely have to try that with one of my pink blushes. Becca Opal looks amazing on you! Looking at the pictures I was like "I've got to know what highlighter this is"
