Look of the Day: Lace on Mars?

Hi, everyone! Given the epic proportions of my order, it's no surprise that the ColourPop Looks of the Day keep rolling out. It continues to be an utter pleasure using all of the goodies- there's not a weak one among them! Today's look is bold, colourful, and a bit retro- loosely inspired by Charlotte Tilbury's Glamour Muse makeup, but at a much more budget-friendly price.

The first star of this show is ColourPop's Super Shock Shadow in Lace, a vivid violet with blue and red shimmer. I love the way it catches the light and complements my brown eyes! I applied Lace heavily over my lid, gradually blending up towards the crease. I also swept it along the outer half of my lower lash line. For some definition and a neutral touch, I applied ColourPop On the Rocks shadow, a warm brown, on the outer corners, and Urban Decay Naked eye shadow (from the Naked Palette) above the crease as a transition shade. With a swish of black eyeliner and 2 coats of black mascara, the eyes were done!

I wanted to keep the complexion flawless, but dewy, so I used my brand new Clinque Even Better Foundation in Alabaster, going easy on the powder afterwards. I highlighted my cheeks with ColourPop's Super Shock Highlighter in Highly Waisted and blush in Jelly Fish. They both add such a beautiful glow without overpowering the rest of the look.

Finally, the second standout- ColourPop's Ultra Matte Lip Colour in Mars. We all know that I'm s sucker for a bright, hot fuchsia lip and Mars is no exception. It's in-your-face but oh so flattering!

The Breakdown:

Foundation: Clinique Even Better Foundation in Shade #1 Alabaster
Concealer: Cle de Peau Concealer in Ivory

Highlighter: ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter in Highly Waisted

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Taupe and Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel

Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion Original formula
Eye Shadows: ColourPop Super Shock Shadows in Lace (all over lid, blended up to the crease and underneath the lower lash lines) and On the Rocks (on the outer corners), Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Naked (from the Naked Palette; above the crease as a transition shade)

Eyeliner: Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil 0L
Mascara: The HotShop Long Lash Mascara (from the Born Pretty Store)

Lipstick: ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Colour in Mars

And a few more shots of the look:

As we transition into Fall, sultry, colourful looks like this one become more appealing. The '70s are definitely a huge trend in the fashion world, so why not in makeup as well!? ColourPop Lace really reminded me why I love purple shadow- it's such a fun way to play with colour minus the maintenance and shock factor that comes with other bright hues. And while I certainly didn't need any new hot pink lip colours, the pure matte finish of Mars makes it unique in my collection. The Ultra Mattes definitely aren't my favourite liquid lipstick formulation (controversial, I know!), but the saturation and long-wear of Mars still make it a true gem.

Do you like wearing purple makeup in the Fall? Are you a fan of the '70s fashion/makeup trend? What is your favourite liquid lipstick formula?

Have a wonderful day! xo

  7. You wear colour eyeshadows so beautifully, wish I would look as good but colours just make me look weird. I have a face that can't carry too much makeup or I look like I aged 20 years overnight. :-/

That lipstick is sooooo pretty and it brightens up your whole face!

  16. I'm joining you on not totally loving the Ultra Mattes. I'm wearing Bumble today and wore Mars yesterday. The colours are gorgeous but there's a dryness to them that is just EXTREME.

This look however, is GORGEOUS. Ugh. I do love how well Mars comes out, I just wish it wasn't so dry!
