Fragrance Love: Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt

Hi, everyone! I'm here to bring you a review that's been about nine months in the making- no, not a baby, but a lovely perfume! I received Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne for Christmas last year and it instantly rose to the position of one of my favourites. The only reason I have not reviewed it to date is that fragrances, along with products like hair and bath items, often fall off the radar when it comes to the blog. While I'm always eager to talk about the latest lipstick or facial serum, perfumes rarely get a slot. I'm definitely working to change that, however, so let today's feature be a step in the right direction! 

Jo Malone colognes come in both 30mL and 100mL sizes (I opted for the smaller size, as they are quite pricey; $125USD for 30mL) and come in clear rectangular bottles with a silver cap. Minimal, ladylike, and chic! Each bottle is nestled in a sturdy white and black cardboard box that is likewise luxe in its minimalism.

Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt is slotted among their "Woody" fragrance offerings and  is described as follows: "Escape the everyday along the windswept shore. Waves breaking white, the air fresh with sea salt and spray. Alive with the mineral scent of the rugged cliffs. Mingling with the woody earthiness of sage. Lively, spirited, and truly joyful" (from jomalone.com). Paints quite a picture!

In addition to sage and sea salt, another primary note the the fragrance is ambrette seeds, which are aromatic seeds, native to India, that are part of the hibiscus family and add a musky scent. Taken together, this makes for a fragrance that is fresh, earthy, rugged, and just a touch spicy. So unique and so up my alley! One of the most interesting things about Wood Sage & Sea Salt is that it is completely free of any floral notes. Such a rarity for a perfume! 

I am truly smitten with this fragrance as it is unique in its paradoxes: it's green, but not grassy, fresh, but not too clean, reminiscent of the water, yet far from those blue-toned ocean fragrances of the past, and a touch spicy, without being one bit heavy. The fragrance is also incredibly versatile. It's light enough for daytime and summer wear, yet complex and sexy enough to carry me through wintertime and a date night. Truly, its combination of originality and ease have made it my most used perfume of the year so far! 

I know fragrance reviews can be frustrating, as there is no way to have a tangible experience with the product. But until we have smello-vision (smello-puter?), hopefully this review has piqued your interest :)
