Simple Summery Look: Bronze + Sangria

Hi, everyone! After putting together my last post, I started to ponder over what other unexpected Summery colour combinations I could create. I'd recently snagged a gorgeous wine-coloured lipstick in an epic makeup swap and had originally thought "I'll have to stash this away until Fall". But then I decided to challenge that notion- I will make this lipstick work for Summer! How to achieve this feat? Pair the wine with some swipes of bronze.

The lip colour that I speak of is the stunning Milani Colour Statement Lipstick in Sangria. Readers of the blog will know that I'm smitten with this formula- the pigmentation is amazing! Sangria is a deep wine-toned berry, quite reminiscent of MAC Rebel. While I might apply this full-on during the colder months, I decided to give the shade a Summery feel by applying it like a stain. I swiped it along the inner portion of my lips, dabbing and blending outward. I really liked the effect!

To punch up the Summery tone, I reached for some of my favourite bronzey products. I first added a warm glow to my complexion thanks to the beautiful, shimmery (and affordable) Essence Life's a Beach bronzer. I applied it to the areas where the sun naturally kisses the face- across the forehead, the tops of my cheeks and nose, and lightly on my chin. I also used Life's a Beach as an eye shadow for a uniform sunny look. I then added a bit of depth to my face with my favourite matte bronzer, The Body Shop's Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder in 02 Fair Matte, applying it to the hollows of my cheeks and my temples.

To avoid looking washed out, I added a subtle flush to the apples of my cheeks, courtesy of Clinique Cheek Pop in Heather Pop. For a final bold bronze touch, I reached for Urban Decay's 24/7 Eye Liner in Lucky, a bold shimmery copper bronze.

And a few more shots of the look:

So there you have it- yes, you can wear deep, vampy lipsticks in Summertime! Just dab it on lightly (hello post-popsicle lips) and pair it with a bronzer and you're all set! A killer bronze eyeliner doesn't hurt either :)

Do you ever wear berry lips in Summer? What are your favourite bronzers?

Thanks for dropping by! xo

  5. I'm definitely one of those people who are like nope, berry with Autumn and corals for summer, such a good idea to mix it up a bit. Looks so summery with the bronze, too. If I'm brave I'll swap my usual summery lip for a darker shade too tomorrow!

  8. I think this lip color works great for summer with everything you paired it with. I think describing it as post-popsicle lips is right on.
