Nail of the Day: Raindrops Keep Fallin'...

Hi, everyone! On this particularly rainy Sunday, I thought I'd share with you a fitting product, Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Raindrops. I'd seen this super pretty shade on Temptalia a little while back and was instantly attracted to the unique finish. When I spotted this in Sephora last month, I had to pick it up!

Raindrops is a cloudy greyish blue shade with a jelly-like finish and multicoloured silver shimmer and soft micro-glitter. It leaves a glowy sheen on the nails that is ultra pretty!

The polish comes in Illamasqua's typical packaging, a sturdy glass bottle with subtle curves and a bold black cap:

Caught in the right light, the shimmer is incredibly brilliant and luminous, mimicking the glow of raindrops hitting a window pane. Quite poetic, isn't it? ;)

At other angles the shimmer is much more subtle, which makes the polish quite wearable and chic.

With one coat, Raindrops is quite sheer, but in a way that looks quite lovely, rather than underwhelming. With two coats (featured in the photos here), it becomes a bit more opaque and gains a richer blue hue:

As for the wear of the polish, it's difficult to give a fair assessment because I applied it quite quickly one evening, foregoing my normal base and top coats. It's held up quite well on its own, though there was some noticeable chipping within 3 days. I'm assuming that with a more careful application and the proper base and top coat layers this would really last quite well!

The full beauty of this polish was a bit difficult to capture on camera- it definitely falls into the "looks even better in real life" category. But hopefully you can still get a sense of the shady blue hue and rainy shimmer!

Overall, I'm really pleased with Raindrops. It is beautiful, unique, and out of the ordinary, yet still quite wearable and soft. Sounds cheesy, but I think it really captures the beauty of a rainy day! Illamasqua has also released a Pink Raindrops shade, a shimmery cotton candy pink, but the original shade is definitely more up my alley. So glad I picked it up!

Have you tried either of the Illamasqua Raindrops nail polishes? What are some of your favourite Illamasqua shades?

Thanks for reading! :)

  2. I am absolutely loving that shade. I'm not big on shimmery nail polishes and would probably prefer it for myself without the shimmer but this one looks lovely on you. I haven't tried any Illamasqua nail polishes myself but have heard really good things!

  8. I like that this is a blue-mix-grey polish, and I agree, does kind of capture the essence of rainy day. I'm intrigued to see what Pink Raindrops would look like, like fairy floss? Haha!
