Bronzed, Glowy Spring Makeup with Rodial

Hi, everyone! It feels cliche to be talking about the weather at this point, but seriously- can Mother Nature make up her mind?! As March has rolled in, the temperatures have dropped, which has me longing for Spring even more. While I wait for the mercury to rise again, I thought I'd take things into my own hands and channel Spring via my makeup choices!

Just in time to bring Springtime to my face, I was lucky enough to test some brand new products from Rodial that are designed to bring some serious warmth and glow. I've been tempted by Rodial's skin care offerings for some time (I mean, their Dragon's Blood range features a selection of pink-hued hydrating products that make me want to invoke my inner Khaleesi), but their makeup collection is newer to my radar.

Rodial's new Spring makeup offerings are a dream for anyone who loves neutrals, a warm glow, and a serious highlight. The range includes products for lips, eyes, and the complexion and are housed in sleek black boxes with silver lettering. The items themselves are likewise sleek and black, giving them a cool, chic feel. Here's a peek at the goodies I received (plus the Rodial Instaglam Deluxe Highlighting Powder, which I won in a giveaway a few months back!):

Suede Lips in Big Apple** ($30 CAD)
Matte lips are still going strong, but I think brands have realized that we're all getting tired of ultra thick, drying formulas. Enter the Suede Lips collection, which offers full colour and a matte finish with a hydrating Vitamin E-based formula all in one easy-to-use crayon. Big Apple is described as a "soft burgundy berry", but I'd label it a mid-tone rosy berry brown. It slides over lips super smoothly, builds up to full opacity quickly, and doesn't feel at all parching on my lips.

Smokey Eye Pen in Brown** ($21 CAD)
A dark brown eyeliner is key to any warm, smokey look so it's perfect that this pencil was included in the range. The Smokey Eye Pens are designed to be buildable, blendable, and long-wearing and I find these all to be true with this shade. The nib of the  product was quite tiny when it arrived, but a quick sharpen fixed that, no problem! I really like the deep (but not too dark) brown hue and I agree that the colour is really buildable and rather smudge-proof once applied.

Instaglam Glow in Golden Luminescent** ($36 CAD)
Like matte lips, highlighter is not going anywhere. I use powder highlighters most often, but am always open to being wooed by cream and liquid formulas. The Instaglam Glow pen promises to easily add luminescence to the areas of the complexion the sun would naturally kiss. It has twist-up packaging that releases a dose of creamy liquid highlighter. The shade is a unique and beautiful pale rosy golden hue with cooler silver shimmer. The balance of gold and silver elements makes it quite neutral and universally flattering! The formula also applied very easily, blending over foundation nicely using a small duo-fibre brush without disturbing the product underneath.

Smokey Eye Sculpt Eye Shadow Palette** ($45 CAD)
I don't think I'll ever get sick of pretty neutral eye shadow palettes and this new offering from Rodial is no exception- it's quite the beaut! This palette was designed to be versatile, with a range of pearl and matte shades that allow you to create everything from a subdued neutral day look to the ultimate deep smokey eye. It contains five matte shades- a warm ivory, a warm butterscotch, a cool taupe, a deep neutral brown, and a black- and one metallic shimmery shade- a warm copper. All of the shades apply beautifully. The matte shades are not chalky and offer smooth, even pigmentation that's easily buildable. And the shimmery copper is ultra pigmented and gives an amazing glow to the lids. I agree that this palette is ultra versatile and would be amazing for travel given the shade selection and ultra sleek packaging!

These new products from Rodial first reached the spotlight when they were worn by British style icon Poppy Delevingne at the brand's New Year launch dinner. I love that, in the dead of Winter, she chose to channel some warmth. I totally fell in love with her bronzed, luminous skin and softly smokey eyes. I just had to re-create the look!

To start the look, I opted for my go-to ColourStay Whipped Creme Makeup from Revlon and brow products from Anastasia (the Brow Powder Duo in Taupe will forever be my BFF) to create a flawless base. To add some warmth to the complexion, I swept MAC Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical along my cheekbones, forehead, and chin. I then reached for the Rodial products for some colour and glow!

For the eyes, I first applied the butterscotch shade from the Smokey Eye Sculpt palette above my crease as a transition, then deepened the crease and outer corners with the taupe and darker brown shades. For some extra smoke, I applied a touch of the matte black on the outer corner and ran the deeper brown and taupe along my lower lash line. I added some warmth and shimmer to my lids with the metallic copper shade and some brightness to the brow bones and inner corners of the eye with the matte ivory. I then lined my top and bottom lash lines with the Smokey Eye Pen in Brown, winging the upper line out slightly. I finished off the eyes with a couple coats of my fave Essence Cosmetics Forbidden Volume Rebel Mascara

To up the highlight factor, I blended in some of the Instaglam Glow liquid highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, and on the inner corners of the eye and brow bones. To amplify things further, I swept a light dusting of the Instaglam Glow Powder on top of the liquid. And bam- a killer gleam! Finally, I painted my pout with the Suede Lips pencil in Big Apple, which added just the right amount of neutral rosy flush without distracting from the smokey eyes.

And here are a couple shots of the look in natural sunlight so you can get an ultra-true look at the finish of the highlighter and eye shadows:

My first play-around with Rodial makeup left me super impressed and with the sense that this is now a brand to watch out for in the makeup world! The textures were smooth, comfortable, pigmented, and blendable and they worked wonderfully together to create a look that was both smokey and sophisticated. I have to say that I felt like a hot, sultry babe in this makeup and very much did not want to remove it at the end of the day. And that's saying a lot. I can definitely foresee myself wearing these products tons into the Spring and Summer, the Smokey Eye Sculpt palette and Suede Lips in Big Apple especially, as these were particularly impressive. Though I still plan to sample the Dragon's Blood range in the future, next time I'm at the Rodial display I'll most definitely be perusing the makeup as well!

If I've tempted you with the brand, you can find Rodial makeup here in Canada at Murale as well as on the Rodial website, here
