Planning My Wedding Makeup (Help Me Choose!)

Hi, everyone! If you're a regular reader of the blog, you'll know I've been a bit quiet lately. Like, haven't posted in almost a month quiet. But I have a pretty legit, exciting reason for my pause: I'm planning a wedding! Specifically, mine. I'm getting married in October! I have been engaged since early March and could not be more excited about the wedding and making things official in life and love with my partner Adam. The past month has been rife with planning (i.e., spending 90% of my waking hours stalking wedding gowns online), but now that the venue, caterer, and dress have been settled (yes, I found the dress this past Friday!), I'm thrilled to delve back into the blogging world.

Given the reason I've been absent of late, I thought it appropriate that my first post back would be wedding-related! And, of course, makeup-related! Since I said yes to the dress, my attentions have focused on how I'll be wearing my makeup on the big day. There are so many beautiful options, so my head is spinning with possibilities! That's why I'd love your feedback on a perfect wedding makeup for me! I of course have some favourite looks, but it would be great to hear what you think!

A few details about the wedding itself, as this might help set the tone- it's a Fall wedding, on October 22nd. I hope there are lots of Autumn colours about! We are getting married at the Campbell  House, a home built in the early 1800s. The venue has a decidedly antique, vintage feel, yet is smack-dab in the middle of downtown Toronto. So a bit of an urban setting as well! Finally, without giving away too much, my dress is a soft ivory lace.

Ok, let's look at the contenders!

Classic Red Lips
Who doesn't love a red lip for a wedding?! I'm totally into the old Hollywood glamour feel while keeping the eyes big and bright.

Orange-coral Cheeks and Lips
I love the freshness of a cheery coral lip and cheek combo. It's one part retro, one part modern. Plus, the warmth is beautiful for Fall!

Bronze Eyes and Nude Lips
Channeling the dolce vita is always a stunning choice. I'm a sucker for a bronze eye and you can't go wrong with a natural, nude lip on your wedding day.

Bronze Eyes and Red Lips
A step up from the above look, this makeup idea is a bit bolder, but still totally appropriate for a bride, in my opinion. Warm eyes and classic lips really are a perfect pair!

Bright Fuchsia Cheeks and Lips
We all know I have a huge soft spot for a cheery fuchsia lip. Paired bright pink cheeks, it's such a fresh, pretty, flattering look!

Berry Lips and Neutral Eyes
Rich, berry lips for Fall? A no brainer! And a totally stunning choice.

Soft, Sultry Neutrals
Although I'm a sucker for brights, I really do wear neutrals most every day. It is tempting to combine a lovely mix of browns, golds, and peaches on my wedding day.

Ok, so now I'm opening up the floor to feedback- which look is your favourite? Which look could you most see me sporting as a bride?

Once I've narrowed down the choices, I'll do some trial runs with each and share them with you!

So happy to be back in the blogging world and to share this exciting news with you all! xo

Have a wonderful week :)

  1. I am surprised to say that I love the final two the best (I thought I would be all for a red lip).

    Congrats on the engagement x

  2. Since your getting married in the fall, I vote for berry lips and neutral eyes. That being said, when you wore Succulent on your lips from Colourpop, I was completely wowed! That color is amazing on you! You will be breathless in any shade you wear! Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials!

  3. How exciting!! I love the berry lip, the neutral one, the red lip and the orange/coral lip and cheek ones (oh dear not being much help am I haha). Have you seen the Two Faced Neutral eyes palette, it's one of my faves and is said to be a favourite among brides. Will you be doing your own makeup or having an artist?x

  6. I love love love a bronze-y eye on you, but I'm caught between the bright lip and the berry lip. I'm leaning bright lip because it just feels so you, but the berry options look SO pretty.

  7. I think neutrals are the best but that's just me. To me weddings = no makeup makeup but if anyone can rock out a bright red lip, it's probably you ;)

  8. Congratulations!! I hope it all goes well in the planning and I wish you a lifetime of happiness ahead :) Gosh they are all lovely, but berry lips (the first picture) is really calling out to me for an autumn wedding! Try different options with a white top or dress and see what feels best to you :) xxx

  9. I love the soft sultry neutrals! Red lips would be a lot of upkeep during the day I think (for me anyway!) but a great idea to pop on at night!

  10. Eee! Congratulations! So tough to choose a makeup look - they're all gorgeous and I'm sure you will look amazing in whatever you decide on! Personally I love the sultry nudes or berry lips :) You could even go more nude for the ceremony and add a bold lip for the reception?

  13. First of all, congratulations! :) you must be so excited! I'd suggest a red lip because red is such a classic makeup look and stands out! An amazing red lipstick is Russian Red by MAC, it's matte and lasts all day but it's so creamy too!

  14. Firstly congratulations, how exciting! :) Bright colours are just so you that you could easily go for any lippies or eyeshadows. I personally really like the red lip - bronze eyes combo plus the berry lips in these pictures. :)

  15. I love the idea of a berry lip, it's classic yet a little more unexpected than a red lip. Also it would complement ivory beautifully.

  18. Seconded Jen! I feel like the bright lip is so 'you' but BERRY WOULD BE SO APPROPRIATE FOR FALL! And instead of pairing it with neutrals, maybe more gold/bronzey eyelids?

  19. I love the bronze eyes/nude lips - it looks so fresh and romantic but at the end of the day it's up to you and what you feel comfortable/yourself in :) there's always the option of going for something a little bolder for the reception after by putting on a little extra eye makeup and swapping to a bold lip if you can't decide! xx

  25. Congratulations! Because it is the fall I love a berry lip. What the bronze with red is also very Autumn like and will look beautifully on you.

  26. I love the last one but it's close to what I wore for my own wedding. I was an October bride too. My advice would be go with what's classically you in style that way you'll still love it in years to come and make sure it lasts because you'll be having too much fun to touch it up. Congratulations.

  28. First huge congrats! I'm trying to decide myself, I've had one trial with the MUA I'm going to use with bronze eyes and a pink nude lip but I want to try a softer look for the next trial to decide between the two! It's very hard though, you really suit a red lip so I'd be tempted to say go for that!
