2015 Favourites: The Complexion Perfectors

Hi, everyone! I know that many bloggers started sharing their 2015 favourites posts weeks ago, but, given that I fell behind this benchmark, I thought it would still be safe to take a 'better late than never' approach to gushing about my most-loved items of the past year. Rather than bombarding you with a crowded bushel of products (kind of like I did last year; I suck at narrowing down lists), I thought I'd streamline things this time around and present my 2015 faves by category. I wanted to focus this series on products I discovered in 2015, so to qualify, all goodies featured are those that were released in 2015 and/or that I bought and used for the first time in 2015. That means I'm not highlighting products I've been using regularly for years- but I had  to narrow it down somehow!

Our first category includes those makeup items that have been keeping my ever-finicky complexion looking flawless, even, and glowing over the past year.

The Liquids
While Revlon ColourStay will likely always rank as my favourite foundation and Cle de Peau as my top pick for concealer (blasted price tag), I discovered a few base products this year that have really given these staples a run for their money!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer in 01 Light
I have yet to feature a proper review of this, but have been sporting it in all of my recent Looks of the Day. Boy is it incredible! It has the creamiest, dreamiest texture that blends amazingly well and offers medium-to-full coverage without looking cakey. And it truly is long-wearing!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Fluid Foundation in Y225 Marble*
Such a lovely medium-coverage foundation. It is blendable and buildable, looks amazingly natural on the skin, controls oil quite well without drying the skin or clinging to flaky patches, and wears flawlessly for hours. So very impressed with this launch!

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation in BR20 Pinky Beige
This definitely rivals my much-loved Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet for my favourite barely-there oil-controlling foundation. As promised, this offers significant medium coverage with minimal product and an equally lightweight feel. The wear time is impressive and the finish is slightly luminous whilst keeping oil at bay. Not much more I could ask for!

The Powders

When it comes to my preferred skin finish, I'm a woman of contradictions (or perhaps someone who wants it all). I like to keep my skin looking matte and flawless, but do not want to sacrifice a bit of glow. I achieve this by combining soft, mattifying powders with the prettiest highlighting powders I can find! While MAC Blot Powder and BeneFit Watts Up are eternal faves of mine, these products have also stolen my hear this year:

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade
I have been lusting after this highlighter since its first incarnation nearly a decade ago. I mean, look at that powder! It looks like a colourful, ethereal nebula of sorts (sure, that's a thing). After seeing MAC makeup artist Gregory Arlt use it on a model at IMATS this year, I knew I finally had to snag it. Lightscapade creates the most flattering candlelit glow on my fair skin and is neither too subtle nor too frosty.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Creamy Natural and Natural
I'm very happy I came across this in my attempt to find a more affordable dupe of MAC Blot. It really does an outstanding job of setting makeup without looking cakey and the oil control properties are great, especially for the price. I like that these have a bit of colour to them (both of the shades mentioned above work fine for my NC15-20 skin tone)- they add a final bit of coverage while still feeling lightweight.

Becca Champagne Glow Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Palette
I was happy to snag this in the recent Sephora VIB sale, have raved about it here, and have been wearing it about 6 days a week since then. The texture of these is beautiful- they blend like a dream and give a shimmery glow that can be built up for intense drama. Pearl is a very wearable ivory white, Champagne Pop (which is so worth all the hype) gives skin the most beautiful golden glow, and Blushed Copper is surprisingly wearable as a bronzey blush and also doubles as a killer eye shadow.

So there we have it- my favourite foundations, concealers, powders, and highlighters of 2015. I was lucky to find so many gems last year!

Look out for tomorrow's installment, featuring my favourite blushes of the year! :)

  6. I rarely use powder due to my dry skin but I have repurchased Rimmel Stay Matte a few times now because it's seriously brilliant! I have yet to give that Make Up For Ever foundation a go but it's in my list to try, so many love it!
