Lip Stash by Hue: The Browns and Bricks

Hi, everyone! The lipstick swatch-fest has resumed! It seems that brown-tinged, '90s- inspired lipsticks are all the rage these days and, while I can totally get behind embracing lip colours reminiscent of my grade school days, there's no doubt that straight-up brown shades can be super difficult to pull off. Luckily, there is a full spectrum of browns out there, from rich honeys to burnt berries to silvery taupes (you'll know it when you see it). And fortuitously, many of these variations reside in my collection!

The brown-toned lipsticks in my collection are:

MAC Frost Lipstick in Viva Glam Rihanna 2
Mary Kay True Dimensions Lipstick in Baies a la Mode
MAC Lustre Lipstick in Viva Glam VI
Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter in Fig Jam
Ilia Lip Gloss in Gypsy
NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Joyous Red (Limited Edition)
Wet N' Wild Mega Last Lip Colour in Spiked with Rum

Here they are all lined up, followed by swatches of each in the same order:

And each of the lipsticks in the context of a completed makeup look:

MAC Frost Lipstick in Viva Glam Rihanna 2

Mary Kay True Dimensions Lipstick in Baies a la Mode

MAC Lustre Lipstick in Viva Glam VI

Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter in Fig Jam

Ilia Lip Gloss in Gypsy

NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Joyous Red

Wet N' Wild Mega Last Lip Colour in Spiked with Rum

Though brown-toned lipsticks will never be my favourites (despite my undying love for the '90s), I have to say there are some pretty fabulous picks in my stash. Viva Glam Rihanna 2 takes the cake as the most unique shade in my collection and Fig Jam is a totally underrated option from the Lip Butter range- super versatile! I'm also incredibly smitten with the lush, honey finish of Ilia Gypsy and have to say that Wet N' Wild Spiked with Rum might be the most badass $2 lipstick I've tried!

Do you reach for brown lipsticks? Which of the lip colours that I featured is your favourite?

Thanks for dropping by! xo

  9. Hey Jen, oh this is a whole family of shades that I usually can't pull off LOL You do it so well, but most brownish shades end up looking horrible on me! Some of these look doable tho :)
