Makeup of the Month: March| Luxurious Organic Lips with ILIA!

Hi, everyone! If you saw my 2015 Beauty Resolutions, you'll know that it was my primary goal to purchase one makeup item each month, to hone in solely on the one product that was flirting with me the most. While my resolve has not been perfect, I have been successful at limiting myself to one makeup transaction per month, which is no small feat in my books! Given my recent preoccupation with organic makeup and skincare, it's no surprise that my March makeup picks were from an all-natural brand that I'd been dying to try.

ILIA is a Vancouver-born company that now runs out of Los Angeles. Its founder, Sasha Plavsic, created the brand guided by the notion that our skin is the body's largest organ and thus should not be painted and preened with toxic ingredients. As such, she set out to create products that were pure, sustainable, organic, and packed with active botanicals. The packaging is also made of recycled materials, which is a neat idea! In addition to being skin-friendly, Sasha set a goal of ensuring this line looked modern, attractive, and aesthetically interesting (which many all-natural brands tend to lack).

Just as Sasha aimed, I find ILIA's product design to be sleek, chic, and totally appealing. The outer packaging takes the form of these brownish plum textured cardboard boxes with silver lettering. The lip products themselves come in frosted silver tubes with colourful accents and the same minimalist ILIA logo.

The three products I selected for this haul were:

Lip Gloss in Gypsy, a warm amber berry with a slick, hydrating formula
Lipstick in Femme Fatale, a warm burgundy with subtle brownish undertones and a velvet finish, and
Lipstick Crayon in Karma Chameleon, a cheery orange coral with a satin finish

(Aren't the shade names fun? Definitely an added appeal to ILIA products)

Here are each of the products in their lovely packaging:

L-R: Ilia Lip Gloss in Gypsy, Lipstick in Femme Fatale, Lipstick Crayon in Karma Chameleon

And here they are swatched on my inner arm (MAC NC15 skin tone):

L-R: Ilia Lip Gloss in Gypsy, Lipstick in Femme Fatale, Lipstick Crayon in Karma Chameleon

As you can see, the Lip Gloss is the sheerest of the bunch, while the Lipstick is the most opaque. I will be posting full reviews of each of these products in a coming post, but I can honestly say that none of these have disappointed!

Overall, I am thrilled to now have some ILIA goodies in my stash. I had been stalking the brand for months due to its natural ethos, gorgeous shades, cheeky shade names, and sleek packaging and felt completely satisfied in finally quenching this lemming. My lips look fab and my conscience feels clean!

As I said, look out for fuller reviews of these lovely lippies soon!

Which of these shades is your favourite? Have you tried anything from ILIA? Any other natural lip products that you love?

Have a fantastic week :)

  6. While I am not too obsessed with natural, organic line (yet!), I am currently trying to purchase Canada brand makeup. It's nice to know this is one of it and I absolutely love the swatches. I'll be stalking them next. LOL!

  7. I've never heard of ILIA, so I guess I'm out of the loop. I like the philosophy of treating the skin like the organ it is. Karma Chameleon is so pretty, and the name is great!

  11. These are all beautiful colors. I think my favorite here is Karma Chameleon! Such a pretty shade for spring/summer. Also, I've recently given up purchasing any makeup until I completely finish off another makeup item first. I hardly ever "hit pan" when it comes to my makeup, so it's a struggle to not purchase all the new things I see in stores haha!
