Makeup of the Month: February| Chanel Spring

Hi, everyone! My central beauty resolution of 2015 is to limit my makeup whims to one purchase per month. A lofty goal, but certainly one that has helped me to identify my most-wanted products. In the days leading up to February, I had curated a select list of possibilities for my monthly pick, but an impromptu visit to the Chanel counter left this list in the dust! I'm always tempted by a new Chanel collection, but I had somewhat overlooked their Spring 2015 offerings. That is until a lovely sales associate at Hudson's Bay applied a few of the shades to me and I realized there were some utter gems in the lineup.

After my makeup touch-up, I left the store with two items: a limited edition Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick and a likewise limited Les Quatres Ombres eye shadow quad.

Both products came packaged in Chanel's signature shiny black boxes with gold detailing and white lettering:

The Rouge Allure Velvet comes in a sleek black tube with Chanel's unique click-out packaging (you have to try it!) and gold detailing. The eye shadow quad comes in a square-shaped plastic compact with the iconic double Cs and an accompanying velvet pouch. While you would sometimes look forward to some colourful, limited edition packaging, there is something comforting (and rather chic) about seasonal collections maintaining the brand's classic look.

As for the shades I selected- surprise, surprise- I first opted for a bold lip colour. After having Rouge Allure Velvet in La Petillante swiped across my pout, I knew it had to be mine. While I do own many, many bright pinks, there is something about this one that stands out. It is not as cool as a fuchsia, yet doesn't have the warmth of a coral. La Petillante is more of a vivid, saturated rose. This is my first Rouge Allure Velvet and I have to say the the formula is lovely! It has a satin-matte finish, buildable pigmentation, and an incredibly lightweight feel on the lips.

The Chanel Spring 2015 collection offers two shadow palettes, but it was Les Quatres Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eye Shadow in Tisse Fantaisie that caught my eye. Not only was it the warmer colour combo of the two, it included the most lovely gilded olive and bronzey brown tones. The sales associate was wearing a smokey eye using a combination of the two and it was stunning! The quad also features a peachy coral and a pink-tinged white. Truly a perfect medley of hues for Spring!

Here are swatches of both new goodies on my inner arm (MAC NC15 skin tone). As you can see, the lipstick is beautifully pigmented and the shadows are semi-sheer (but can be built up) with a flattering sheen:

So while my February purchase was somewhat of an impulse, I'm happy to have succumbed to my whims. The shade and texture of the lipstick are utter perfection and the eye shadow shades, though not completely novel, are a unique combination that work together unexpectedly well. Look out for a Look of the Day featuring these two Chanel goodies coming up next!

Were you at all tempted by the Chanel Spring collection? Are these shades you'd reach for?

Thanks for stopping by! xo

I've eyeing on the Tisse Paris, actually. The one you got is so pretty but maybe a little too warm for my likings.
    Anyway, gorgeous picks. :)
