Halloween Look #2: Pop Art, Anyone?

Hi, everyone! Hope you're all healing nicely from your candy hangovers. Yesterday I shared with you my Siren-inspired Halloween Look and today I bring you a touch of pop art! I'm a huge fan of iconic 1960s artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein and when I saw this look from Keiko Lynn, I knew I had to re-create a piece of pop art this Halloween. 

I drew especially on the work of Roy Lichtenstein, whose comic-style prints were iconic for their dotted texture, bold heroines, and provocative text bubbles. I couldn't quite re-create one, but here's my take on one of his most popular pieces:

The female characters in his prints were often in some sort of dilemma and I tried to capture a feeling of dismay with my furrowed brows and welling tears. Here I am, hamming it up for the camera trying to embody the emotion...

As for how I created this look, I started with the black contours around the edges of the face, along the nose, chin, cheekbones, and brows. For that, I used two bold black liners, Revlon ColourStay Liquid Eye Pen in Blackest Black and Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero. I made sure my brows were bold and curved, for extra expression. 

For the eyes, I started by lining my waterline and lower lash line with NYX Wonder Pencil in Light to make my eyes look big, bright, and cartoon-like. I then defined both lash lines, as well as my crease, with Revlon Blackest Black to create a graphic shape. I filled in my lids with the most vivid, neon shade I could find, Make Up For Ever Aquamatic in Iridescent Lime Green. For the teary puddle underneath my eye, I drew an outline with Blackest Black, then filled it in with the sea blue shade from the Marc Jacobs The Siren palette. 

To create the iconic dotted texture, I took the bottom of the thinnest makeup brush I own and dipped it into NARS Matte Multiple in Siam and carefully stamped the colour along my face. I have to say that this took foooorever, but it was so worth it! I then topped each dot of Siam with the red eye shadow from The Siren palette to set the creamy colour.

Next, I outlined the lips with Blackest Black and filled them in with an ultra retro red, Lime Crime Unicorn Lipstick in Retrofuturist. I added a dab of Illamasqua Precision Ink in Scribe on my lower lip for the illusion of shine. 

I finished everything with a few spritzes of Urban Decay All-Nighter spray to hold things in place and- ta da- pop art perfection!

I had so, so much fun with this look- I really felt like a piece of art! It was totally worth the tedious dotting and the fact that I could not itch my face all night!
