Nail of the Day: In the Lapiz of Luxury

Happy weekend, everyone! It's that time again- another Nail of the Day! Today I'm featuring a super popular Nail Lacquer by Essie, which is absolutely perfect for Spring and Summer! Plus, it was a birthday gift from my little sister, which makes it extra special :)

Lapiz of Luxury is a sheer, shimmer-free polish that leaves a glossy, reflective finish. Essie calls the shade a "dreamy ocean blue". A lovely description, for sure, but I find it to be a bit more complex than that. In some lighting, it looks like a cheery sky blue, in others it has stronger indigo-lavender tones to it. There is no actual duochrome type of effect; it just really seems to be quite the chameleon!

As with all Essie polishes, it comes in a sturdy glass bottle with the logo etched into two sides and written in white on the others, with the shade name labelled on the top of the cap:

I applied 2 coats of the polish to create the result photographed here. I think it was the perfect amount to reach my desired colour intensity, while still maintaining the unique, slightly sheer finish.

Here are a few more shots of it, to get a sense of how it looks slightly different in various lighting:

Overall, I'm in love with the shade and feel it'll be one I reach for often. The formula, however, leaves a bit to be desired in that it chips rather quickly. Within a couple days I had some minor, but noticeable chips that were annoying to say the least! Especially since I had used a base and top coat along with it.

So this may not be the best polish if you want something durable that lasts, but I feel that the shade is pretty and unique enough to make it totally worth adding to your collection :)

Have any of you tried Lapiz of Luxury? Any other favourite Essie Nail Lacquers?

Have a great weekend! xo

  1. I could tell right from the first photo that the formulation is not long-lasting. It's a shame because this is such a cute colour! I find Essie does the best blues: Bikini So Teeny & Bouncer I'm Here are my faves :)

    1. Essie really does make fantastic blue shades; I'm curious if Bikini So Teeny has a better formula, since it's a similarly pretty colour :)

  11. I never tried this particular tone but I do love it! Took me a while to get used to blue nail polishes to be honest but now I loved it. Last week I bought 'Bleu Majorelle' from YSL.
I love a lot of tones from Essie but my next one will be 'Madison Ave-hue'. :)
    Love that shade on you!

  12. I've yet to try Essie nail polishes but I've seen so many lovely colours that I think I definitely need to pop into boots to get a few. Love this shade. I have Chanel's Blue Boy which I love but I'm loving this shade.
