Look of the Day: Colour of my 30th Year

Hey, everyone! Each year, Pantone, a self-proclaimed "authority on colour", deems its colour of the year. A hue that embodies current trends, feelings, and fashion. This year, their selected Colour of the Year is Emerald. Though this designation doesn't bear a huge impact on my colour choices, I was happy to see that their selection was one that totally appeals to me. I've always loved shades of emerald; so rich, lush, and bold. And emerald is my birthstone, so there is an added affinity!

So, given that emerald is the colour of 2013, the year that also saw my 30th birthday, I thought I'd do a Look of the Day inspired by the hue of the moment.

I've always loved the look of green eye makeup, though I find myself wearing it so rarely of late. On the occasional day when I don't have to put on my 'professional face', however, I still have so much fun playing with vibrant shades on the eyes. And these tones of green were no exception!

I opted for shades of emerald, chartreuse, olive, and moss, blending them together to unify the look. The base of the eye shadow (also used as an eyeliner on the bottom lash line) was NYX's bold and creamy Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green. It worked so well to get the look started! I layered it with some of my favourite green shades from MAC, NYX, and BeneFit and finished things off with Clinique Cream Shaper eye liner in Egyptian and black mascara.

I paired the vivid green eyes with soft, pinky-peach cheeks and eyes to keep things balanced. Here's a full breakdown of everything I used!

The Breakdown:

Foundation: Revlon ColourStay Liquid Foundation (combination/oily formula) in Buff
Concealer: BeneFit Fake-Up in Light (under eyes) and Hard Candy Glamouflage in Light (on blemishes)
Powder: Hard Candy Welcome Matte Translucent Mattifying Powder
Bronzer: Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder #51
Blush: Stila Convertible Colour in Lilium topped with NARS Powder Blush in Sex Appeal

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blonde/Taupe
Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original
Eye Shadows: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green (as a base for the powder shadows, from lashline to crease and as an eyeliner on the bottom lash line), BeneFit Show Offs in Pistachio (to highlight the centre of the lid and inner corner), Emerald green shade from the NYX For Your Eyes Only Mysterious Browns Palette (to set the NYX Jumbo Pencil), MAC Humid eye shadow (to deepen the crease colour), and MAC Sumptuous Olive eye shadow (to blend colours together)
Eyeliner: Clinique Cream Shaper in Egyptian
Mascara: Boots Maximum Volume Mascara (Waterproof formula) in Black

Lipstick: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous (lightly)
Gloss: Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Zephyr

And a few more shots of the look:

And that's it! I really had fun with this look; definitely inspired me to sport green eye makeup more often. It is the colour of the year, after all!

Do you ever wear green eye shadow? What are some of your favourite emerald-coloured eye products?

Thanks for reading! xo

    1. Aww, thanks so much, Peet! It was a great birthday and I always love comments like that! In terms of secrets, I think it's merely a combination of genetics, oily skin (which wrinkles slower) and wearing sunscreen daily since I was a teen. Wish it was something more exciting! xo
