Look of the Day: Purple Haze

Hey, everyone! Today's Look of the Day is inspired by a couple of things: 1) Simply, I love purple makeup and don't wear it nearly often enough and 2) I've been a bit fixated on coloured mascara lately and was excited to use my brand new Hard Candy Ginormous Lash Volumizing Mascara in Purple Haze asap. The result? An ode to my affinity for purple and a great way to showcase this fun new mascara.

Purple Haze is a vivid violet shade of mascara with a volumizing formula. I was afraid the hue would be a bit too light to wear on its own (I still wanted some definition on my lashes), so I layered it with my current mascara, Fresh Supernova Mascara in Black. Impressively, Purple Haze really held its own when blended with the black- the purple tone was definitely visible, but lashes still looked full and defined. I was really happy with the result! I concentrated the Purple Haze especially on the bottom lashes to add an extra pop of colour. It did smudge a bit underneath my eyes, but I found it to be a happy accident because I really liked the smudgy, slightly smokey effect it created!

I paired the purple mascara with some shimmery champagne, pink, and purple shades from the versatile NYX For Your Eyes Only Mysterious Browns Palette and jet black pencil liner (the formidable Prestige Total Intensity Liner in Deepest Black).

To complement the violet eye, I opted for the most blatantly purple lipstick I own, MAC Amplified Lipstick in Up the Amp. It's a bit more "out there" than lipstick shades I normally wear, but I think it fit with the look pretty well! For the cheeks, I went with the lovely NARS Powder Blush in Dolce Vita. I don't really own any purple-toned blushes (I find them to really wash me out), but Dolce Vita has slight plummy undertones, so it was my go-to choice!

Here's another shot of the look, followed by a break-down of everything I used:

The Breakdown:

Foundation: Revlon ColourStay Liquid Foundation (Combination/Oily formula) in Buff
Concealer: Benefit Fake-Up in Light (under eyes and around nose) and Hard Candy Glamouflage in Light (on blemishes)
Powder: Wet N' Wild Cover All Pressed Powder in Fair/Light
Bronzer: Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Hula Hula
Highlighter: Ivory eye shadow shade from the NYX For Your Eyes Only Mysterious Browns Palette
Blush: NARS Powder Blush in Dolce Vita

Brows: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blond/Taupe
Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original
Eye Shadows: NYX For Your Eyes Only Mysterious Browns Palette (pinky ivory shade as highlight, champagne shade on lid, lilac shade on crease)
Eyeliner: Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Deepest Black
Mascara: Fresh Supernova Mascara in Black mixed with Hard Candy Ginormous Lash Volumizing Mascara in Purple Haze

Lips: MAC Amplified Lipstick in Up the Amp

And a few more shots of the look!

I really had a lot of fun with this look! I loved the effect of the purple mascara and it was nice to step out of my comfort zone a bit with the super unique Up the Amp lipstick. I definitely need to reach for purple shades more often!

What do you think of the look? Have you been tempted to try coloured mascara? What are some of your favourite purple-toned makeup products?

Have a lovely weekend! xo
