Lipsticks For... When you feel a bit Vampy

One of my beauty resolutions for 2013 (aside from putting myself on a serious budget- yikes!) is to fully appreciate the makeup collection I have at present, rather than expending my energies pining for new goodies all of the time. I figured that one way to fully indulge in my current collection would be to organize, photograph, and swatch my favourite products. A formidable task, but I think I'm up for the challenge!

I decided to tackle my lipstick collection first, organizing it by colour family. Today's post is the first of several and features all of the deep, vampy shades in my collection. Those that are not quite red, not quite fuchsia, not quite purple, but entirely bold and daring. Dark, vampy lips, in all shades of merlot and mulberry, have been a huge trend this Fall and Winter, making all us beauty junkies ponder how bold a lip we would dare sport during the colder months.

Below are the eight lipsticks in my collection that truly embody a vampy vibe. Shades of berry, wine, and plum. While each offers a degree of drama, I feel that all are quite wearable and would suit a variety of skin tones. Let me now if you agree!

And as a final note before the pictures, the photos in this post were the first to be taken using my new portable photo studio and lighting kit! You can see a post about the kit here. Let me know how you think the photos turned out!

(L-R): Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick in Confident, Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter in Red Velvet, Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Rivoli, Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lipstick in Bal de Mai, MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Quite the Thing!, MAC Satin Lipstick in Rebel, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Strumpet, Clarins Joli Rouge in #717
I didn't have the opportunity to photograph each of these shades on the lips, but I've included links below to any past posts that have included pictures of the featured shades. If you would like to see more photos or a review of any of the lipsticks from my "vampy" collection, let me know!

Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick in Confident is the deepest shade of the bunch, with strong purple undertones and hints of berry and brown. Incredibly opaque and long-wearing.
Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter in Red Velvet is a gorgeous brown-tinged berry red with an incredible colour payoff and a shiny finish. The slightly glossy texture makes it a great option for those wary of matte shades. To see a photo of it on my lips, click here.
Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Rivoli is a sophisticated plummy red with a satin finish. Opaque colour without being too flat or overpowering. I featured it in a past post,  here!
Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lipstick in Bal de Mai is a lovely deep pinky-berry shade with hints of burgundy and purple. A mostly matte formula that feels comfortable on the lips.
MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Quite the Thing! is the sheerest shade of the bunch, a bold pinky-purple shade with subtle blue and red shimmer. Quite unique! Also a great option for those who want to sport bold lips without committing to an opaque, matte formula.
MAC Satin Lipstick in Rebel is one of my all-time favourites, a plummy purple with hints of red and fuchsia and a semi-matte, satin finish. Excellent colour payoff. I've featured it in two past posts, here and here!
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Strumpet is a newly-acquired lip colour that I can't get enough of. Similar to MAC Rebel, but a with a bit more red and pink to it. Incredibly opaque and long-lasting, but with a slight sheen. I've reviewed and photographed it here.
Clarins Joli Rouge in #717 is a lipstick I purchased a few years ago in a previous attempt to embrace the "deep lips for fall" trend. I pulled it out for this post because it's quite a lovely shade- a slightly glossy berry purple that glides quite smoothly on the lips!

And now for some swatches!

(L-R): Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick in Confident, Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter in Red Velvet, Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Rivoli, Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lipstick in Bal de Mai, MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Quite the Thing!, MAC Satin Lipstick in Rebel, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Strumpet, Clarins Joli Rouge in #717

Here is a larger view of the entire group, some closeups, and a couple more swatch photos!
