Orange Crush: Citrus-inspired hues for summer!

One trend that has been abundant this spring and summer is the prevalence of tangerine and orange-based hues in makeup palettes, from high-end to bargain. Orange is one of my most favourite shades to wear, particularly in the warm summer months, so I decided to spotlight some of my most beloved products that embody this vibrant trend. They're all super juicy and- amazingly- incredibly wearable!

Back (L-R): NARS Powder Blush in Taj Mahal, OPI Nail Lacquer in Cajun Shrimp, Sleek Blush in Life's A Peach, Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Firecracker
Front (L-R): Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Colour in Punch Drunk, Make Up For Ever Star Powder in #90953 (limited edition) and MAC Eyeshadow in Firespot (limited edition)

And closeups of the orangey products that I have been using frequently of late:

Sleek Blush in Life's a Peach

Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour in Punch Drunk (Man, I need a manicure!)

NARS Powder Blush in Taj Mahal

OPI Nail Lacquer in Cajun Shrimp (my go-to summer polish for my toes!)

Some swatches of the lip and cheek products:

(L-R): Revlon Firecracker, Urban Decay Punch Drunk, Sleek Life's a Peach, NARS Taj Mahal

Same as above, with flash

And here are a couple of looks that I did using combinations of the products featured above. The first spotlights that vibrant NARS Taj Mahal blush on the cheeks. It is a highly pigmented orange-tangerine blush with gold shimmer. On my fair skin it must be applied with a very light hand, but when applied properly it leaves a lovely warm finish! I paired it with Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Firecracker, which leaves a sheer orange glow on the lips. Here's what it looked like:

For the second look I opted for a slightly softer cheek and a bolder lip. I used Sleek's Life's a Peach Blush, which is a warm peach shade with a matte finish. The quality and packaging of Sleek blushes are quite similar to that of NARS, and for a fraction of the price! Since they're not available in Canada, I try my best to swap for them when trading with ladies in the U.K. They're really fantastic! The star of this look, however, is Urban Decay's Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour in Punch Drunk. It's a to-die-for orangey-red (mostly orange) lip gloss stick that leaves a full-pigmented, shiny finish. It's been getting a lot of love from me lately! Here are a few pictures of the look:

In addition to the products featured here, some of my other favourite tangerine-hued items include MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Korean Candy, Chanel Nail Polish in Holiday (part of the Summer 2012 collection), Chanel Joues Contrastes Blush in Reflex and MAC Eyeshadow in Paradisco, some of which I  might review in the future.

What are some of your favourite orange-tangerine-peachy makeup items?

Thanks all for reading! :)

    1. The Revlon Firecracker was lovely as an everyday look, and probably obtainable at Shoppers. I don't have the international connections to obtain the other nifty brands...Really enjoy your posts, Jen. Hope to see you soon.

  5. Thanks! Oranges and corals are definitely my favourite colour ranges to play around with in summertime, but I still wear them occasionally during the winter when I want to be in a summery mood :)
